Your Dad sounds a lot like my Dad. He always praised me for what I had to offer. He treated each of my siblings with a sure knowledge of who each of us was.

We are all very different. My oldest brother went to medical school and became a doctor. He also got his freshman year girlfriend pregnant and married her at 18. My parents helped them but never gave them money. They did continue to pay my brothers tuition because they would have done that if he didn’t have a wife and kid.

When I told my Dad I wanted to be an artist he didn’t try to talk me out of it. I went to art school and have spent my life as a creative.

Parents need to love and support their kids even if they make mistakes or what may seem like crazy choices.
