We need a better way to deal with suffering. I understand, deeply, what your grandfather did and it is heart breaking. Heart breaking that he made such a hard decision and for the aftermath.

When my husband was dying I was determined not to allow him to suffer. I had advice from my brother, who is a physician and a good friend who was a nurse. There was no sugar coating but they encouraged me to be patient because his time was up and I would not have to watch him going for much longer.

Your story, for me, is not about violence. It’s about love. I’m sorry that you’ve had all of this happen in your life. Something so private and personal being made into a new story. An old man incarcerated. Beyond belief.

Thanks for writing this.
