If I'd fallen into the idea that I was a terrible writer based on how much I fail to make here on Medium I would NOT still be writing here.

Every time I hit publish on a piece of my fiction, I chuckle at myself and honestly just hope someone will read the thing. I enjoy writing but have no idea how to monetize my writing here.

And I'm just stubborn enough to continue to think that if I just keep writing and improving that someday, maybe someday, someone (besides my little group of likeminded supporters) will ask me if I would like to write a screenplay based on one of my stories...that's the dream.

I do think some of the folks who write about their income are doing so because it amazes them that they are finally being paid decently for the words they write. I know if I'd gone from pig scraps to being able to support myself and thought I might be able to help someone else in similar straits, I'd write a little something about it too.
