My Meniscus, My Fridge, My Hopes and Dreams for a Nice Vacation
Call me even, Steven.
I’ve got to hand it to my daughter. We decided a few years ago to try to spend a few days, just the two of us, close to my birthday and to Mother’s Day which often coincide. We never get it together to plan months in advance so sometimes the pickings for where to stay are slim. In the past we’ve chosen a town close to equal driving distance for each of us and stayed at an affordable hotel, eaten at local dives and floated in the hotel pool.
This year though, she came up with an idea quirky enough to please both of us.
Did you know that those dated old KOA Campgrounds now offer these cute little cabins that come with a kitchen, real beds and showers? They even allow dogs without a huge deposit and once you’ve checked in you are treated to a slice of Americana I didn’t even know still existed. The amenities include a free waffle or pancake breakfast (biscuits and sausage gravy at some of their southern sites and you can even have bacon if you pay an extra $2.00!), a pool, a hot tub, a sauna and work out room, miniature golf, a petting zoo (bunnies!) and a dog park. There is a train ride for kids (a tractor pulling little cars made out of metal barrels) and some nights, the campers get together in a big meeting room to play Bingo.
