My husband was raised by his single Mom after she divorced his abusive, selfish, irresponsible, alcoholic father. My husband is a lovely, and loving human being. He's needed some guidance through some of the tougher parts of parenting because he didn't have a father's input but I'd say to his Mom, job well done. (Never met her, she died before my husband and I met each other.)

There's something to be said about a person knowing exactly who they don't want to be. I wish, for Sophie's sake, there was more to her relationship with her father than this...
