My big pile of books (yet to read) doesn't include a single classic except Hemingway. I stuck my unread volume of For Whom the Bell Tolls into the tower after I read your last essay about Hemingway. I was assigned to read it in Freshman English and couldn't get through it.
It will be interesting to see if I can read it now that I'm 66. I'm hopeful but I've been running around with scissors for quite a long time now.
Which reminds me of Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs. He's a fantastic writer.
I enjoyed your essay.
