I was brought up in the fine tradition of the house dress. It was an important garment for both my mother and my Granny. They both lived beyond the girdle era, their girdles being the driving force behind the need for a house dress.

I've lived through some hot Gulf Coast (yes...Gulf Coast) summers when donning a house dress makes it easier to cool off than taking a cold shower or drinking iced tea. No bra, panties optional.

I can still hear my Granny calling out from her bedroom, "Oh, Lord!" Because it feels that great to go from discomfort to freedom.
