I already own Bird by Bird but haven’t read it. I came out to my Mother about being a writer. Despite all of the complications of our relationship she was a reader and loved hearing that I like to write.

So she gave me every book about writing she could find. I think I have most of them. I’ve not read a single one.

In light of this article of yours pertaining to perfectionism, her giving me writing books is ironic.

She really, really wanted me to be perfect.
