I have a dentist appointment for a cleaning tomorrow. It will be 260 bucks. My dental insurance will cover 80 of that amount. I get my teeth cleaned every four months. I pay $30 per month for the dental insurance.
I guess you could look at it as I pay 360 to save 240…but in the last 12 months I’ve had to have three crowns at $2500 each plus some other stuff- basically I spent around 10,000 for dental work over the last twelve months. Please note- I’m not rich. I got back about half of that 10,000 with my dental insurance.
I don’t expect to have that much dental work done in the next 12 months but I’m still going to give the insurance company that $30.00 every month.
I feel lucky to have this insurance. My husband recently retired and the insurance is/was from his job. We’ve continued with it although now we have to come up with the money for our health insurance/dental insurance every month until we are old enough for medicare. It costs 1700 a month. (you read that correctly!) That amount is close to the full amount of his pension.
We juggle so much we could be a circus act. We both still work and as I am self employed I work about ten to twelve hours a day. And in another few months he will be going back to his old job (which was our plan all along). He’ll lose his pension for a year but at least we will have very low cost health insurance again.
As White Feather commented…America.
