I agree that Sophie's projects show real talent. I also think it's probably a bit on the rare side, to have a child that can make their own entertainment in today's world of cell phones and gaming and so many TV shows geared towards kids.

I grew up in the sixties. I spent a lot of time alone. Sewing for dolls, drawing, painting, and working with clay were my favorite activities. I doubt my parents even noticed! I was one of five kids so nobody's art was put on the fridge or talked about over the dinner table.

Later, as a teenager when my childhood hobbies became more focused my parents seemed amazed. Where did all of this come from? Where did I learn how to sculpt? Who taught me how to sew?

You've obviously got your finger on her pulse, enough to say yes to her ideas and to nurture her without interfering. So important!
