How does one justify preaching about Jesus when they are syphoning so much to go into their own pockets?

This scenario you describe shouldn't be surprising. From the Vatican on down, from the Swaggarts, Oral Roberts, the Bakkers, Joel Osteen, Benny Hinn, Paula White, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar and so many others. In my community (Jacksonville Florida) there are many on a less grandiose scale but the ministers have their big cars and mini-mansions and gold watches. They speak loudly about helping the poor and I've even seen them swinging hammers to build homes one day per year. I imagine with what most of them are putting away each month they themselves could fund a few small houses per year.

The infrequent hammer swinging is for show.

Churches have gift shops and snack bars. Big sound systems, auditoriums, artwork, schools that parents pay big tuitions to so their kids can have "great educations".

I guess when you have a direct line to god it pays. And then there are all of the congregants who put their money where their pastors mouths say it should go. There is a good reason why these congregants are referred to as the pastor's flock. As in a flock of sheep.

'

If you need a way to prove your humanity you don't need to join a church. A combination of your own efforts, your tithe directly into someone else's empty pocket, and a sincere desire to help will get you into heaven just as quick.

Don't be so mad at your pastor. Get mad at the whole religion grift.

L. Ron Hubbard of Scientology fame once said:

You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion
